For over 47 years, the Upper Canada Easter Seals Run 5k & 10k Walk and Roll 5k has been a source of hope and support for children and youth with physical disabilities in York Region. Founded by Joe Persechini in 1976, this community event has raised nearly $3.5 million to improve the lives of Easter Seals kids and families, making it the longest-running fundraiser in the region.
The impact of the Run, however, extends far beyond just raising funds. Its success has inspired similar initiatives and brought together thousands of people to foster a supportive and inclusive environment. The Run has broken down barriers, changed attitudes, and paved the way toward a better future for individuals with disabilities in York Region and beyond.
Now, the Upper Canada Easter Seals Run 5k & 10k Walk and Roll 5k is embarking on a new era. As Easter Seals Ontario’s National AccessAbility Week Kick-Off, this annual event will celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities and promote greater accessibility and inclusion in our communities. The relaunch of the Run aims to not only continue supporting children and youth with physical disabilities through fundraising but also create a platform to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and encourage accessibility.
We are excited to continue building a legacy of inclusion and accessibility through the Upper Canada Easter Seals Run 5k & 10k Walk and Roll 5k. Join us in this new chapter and help us make a positive and lasting impact on the York Region and beyond.
